“The intellectual challenges in this field are a natural fit for my passion for art and design.”
What interests Julia Mascini in intellectual property law is that it goes beyond the assessment of legal problems. She not only protects property rights and portrait rights, but also assists in marketing and communication issues, for instance by helping a client determine whether a product can be designed in such a way that the rights in question are better protected.
Julia herself set up two businesses after graduating. She first marketed her own coconut yoghurt label and later set up her own consultancy practice in the field of intellectual property. This experience as a business owner has given her a keen understanding of the problems with which start-ups can be faced. Julia is therefore closely involved in a number of legal accelerator programmes that Köster organises for start-ups. Julia: “I try to leave the beaten track in a creative manner. Such creativity is rewarded at Köster”.
Julia Mascini joined Köster two years after obtaining a Master’s degree in private law. She began to focus on intellectual property law and unlawful competition during a student exchange with Keele University in England. She furthermore completed a traineeship at Danone, as an in-house lawyer, and at an international law firm. Outside work she draws and paints, as well as visiting many art exhibitions.
